Door ajar light stays on
Asked by NewCarsNewLife Feb 02, 2017 at 11:38 PM about the 2006 Mazda Tribute i
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a Mazda Tribute I 06, and since I
bought it it shows that one of the doors is
open. I tried opening all the door while the
car is on but it doesn't make any
difference. The alarm won't activate when I
use the remote control. It lock but I know
the alarm its not on because when the
sensor is working right it make a different
sound when I look it. I've run the computer
but it doesn't detect the issue.
Anyone knows how to fix this problem. I
would appreciate it a lot.
By the way I know its not the driver door
because if I open it while driving it will
sound indicating that it is open.

It's most likely a bad ummm can't think of the right word but check the door jambs should be a little plastic "button" sticking out. One of those must be bad. Could try having a buddy ride with you and have them open the doors and see which one it doesn't ding to and replace the bad door switch.

I've opened all doors but only the driver side makes the ding noise. And I will try the wd- 40 to see if that helps.
I have a 2005 tribute with the same problem no matter what door/hatch/window, the ajar light stays on and that wonderful little alarm rings. Now if the battery stays connected, the battery is drained.
I can guarantee you it's probably going to be the sensor that determines whether the doors closed or not because a lot of these cars now don't have a button like the old cars did there's just a sensor somewhere in the door it could be in with the door latch that when it closes it sends a signal to the dash that it's closed in the light will turn off and will also allow your run to sit properly when you lock it and you will hear the horn sound

Spray WD-40 inside the lock area on the door that makes contact with the car. Open and shut the door a few times. I had this problem with a 1998 Ford Ranger and this solution worked. Recently aquired a 2003 Mazda Tribute and had the same problem start with one of the doors. I solved it with the WD-40.
I found this problem was a result of my back glass not being closed hard enough.
My car dash board keeps showing the two front doors are open but they are closed. I am on a fixed income. I cannot afford high car repair prices.
I'm with Parker above. Sometimes the back glass is not fully seated and will cause the light to stay on. Just give it a good push and that should work. If not, open the glass then give it a good slam, but not hard enough to break the glass.

I have a 2004 mazda tribute and my problem was the glass window in the back also. The plastic or rubber latch needs to be replaced but I find that if you slam it with both hands then it will turn the light off and then the alarm will engage.
Mark, did you fix the problem? If so, what was the fix?
