2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet 3.0 quattro AT5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Glove Compartment has plastic hinges which seem to be defective. It's been replaced 3
years ago but again the hinges just don't hold. The weight of the Glove compartment door
seems to be too heavy. Know of any recourse?

well you can always make a better custom lock for it. when you think about it all thats holding it up is 2 slider bars. Just make some extended ones and slip um in might do the trick.

Sorry i think i read your question wrong :P your talking about the hinge not the latch hehe. Try going to a hardware stroe and locationg a few screws and a long hinge, or 2 smaller ones. Use them to replace the breaking plastic ones. selftapping screws would probly be good but i would use something that threads threw and bolts wit ha washer from the other side. It may not look flashy but its better then a glove box dangleing from its hinges and saves you haveing to replace it every year.

I'm thinking that Audi screwed this up because the weight of the Glove compartment door can't hold with plastic hinges. I'm thinking I found put a leather strap into the box and door on both sides to hold door up, but that might be another headache.

a leather strap would work to. Tho id imadgine you will still need to use screws to secure it.

well if the hinge has its own screws on both sides try this. Take out all the screws and then cut holes in the long piece of leather at the hole points. Then get some washers and re screw the screws back in. Instant leather hinge. If there is no screws attached to the hing same thing applies Make some holes threw both pieces and use a lock nut and washer and a bolt that just comes threw the other side to secure it. You can also try certain types of glues but they are not permanent to hold the strap in place.
