Fuel Gage stops telling the truth (goes out) is this common in an 06 after 100K miles?

Asked by Sherry2724 Jul 13, 2015 at 12:14 AM about the 2006 Nissan Xterra X 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Love my car! 4WD v6 Manual 6 speed - terrible gas mileage and still LOVE IT!  Is it
common for the Fuel Gage to stop telling you the truth after 100K miles?  Also, if I reset
my trip mileage every time I gas up and always gas up when I know I am between a
half and a quarter of a tank (based on milage), would it hurt anything to not fix it?  Of
course, I do keep (no matter what car I've had in the pass) extra fuel just in case my
brain falls out of my head one day.
1) do I need to fix the gage?
2) is this common?

Thanks,
Sherry

Its not a common problem and it will not hurt the car not to have it. To fix it should be a few hundred dollars. If you can live without a gauge and remember to fuel it up then that would be your call.
