INTAKE GASKET ,THEY ARE MADE OF A HARD PLASTIC AND CRACK EASY,THIS IS COMMON ON THE 4.3 AND UP ENGINES,S 10 BLAZER SUBURBAN AND FULL SIZE TRUCKS.IT IS REALLY EAZY FIX.U CAN DO IT YOURSELF SAVE ABOUT 200 IN LABOR COST.PICK UP NEW GASKET AT LOOCAL AUTOZONE AND A TUBE OF BLACK SILICONE,WHEN REMOVED AND CLEANED SMERE A LITTLE SILICONE ON HEADS FOR A LITTLE EXTRA INSURANCE.DONT BE FOOLED AT WHAT U SEE UNDER HOOD IS REALLY EASY JOB. I HAVE REPLACED THEM AT 25OOO MILES.

Could also be a head gasket or freeze plug, I have seen the freeze plugs leak there also.

Most likely freeze plug or blown head gasket. What ever is more expensive and hard to replace. I own a shop and for the past year I have had about 22 of them come in that needed either the freeze plugs or the head gaskets replaced. All though I would definitely check your upper and lower intake manifold gaskets as well. If it is a intake leak, be careful not to crack the plastic upper intake manifold when removing or installing, they break for like no reason.

The possible leak points include hoses, the radiator, heater core, water pump, head gasket, freeze plugs, automatic transmission oil cooler, cylinder head and block.

I have a 99 (old style - like the 98) Suburban - I have been plagued with the same problem. I changed the intake manifold gasket at 80K miles using the original style gasket - and again at 130K miles. I am now at 135K miles and am losing coolant again. I am hoping there is a hose leak somewhere but haven't found it yet. Compression on each cylinder is between 175 and 190 psi - so we're good there.... Coolant leak at front of engine or rear of engine on driver's side is usually the intake manifold gasket.

BTW - make sure you use the updated FelPro Premium lower intake manifold gasket and NOT the original style (like I did the first time)! Also watch your intake manifold torques - they are rather low and measured in INCH-POUNDS NOT foot-pounds.

My 99 Suburban was leaking coolant off the driver side rear of the engine and I thought the worst but it was the main rad hose leaking at the front and running back across the motor. The rad hose was split at the thermostat inlet housing. Cut a chunk off the hose, tightened the hose clamp and bam rolling again.
