Why wont my fuel pump come on?

We tested the with a voltage meter. We get 12 volts at the plug for the pump for 2
seconds when turning on to the on position & 12 volts continuously when cranking over
but when we plug in the fuel pump it does nothing. We ran jumper wires from the pump to
a battery directly & it fires up. Totally baffled here.

Changed the plug (again) when I have the pump unplugged & check I got voltage (to either side of the splice & at the plug. However when I plug it in I have no voltage at the splice (either side). Changed the low oil/fuel pump switch, also replaced the fuel pump relay. The first pump we replaced was 9 months ago, so it was under warranty took it in replaced it with another new pump (thinking it was the pump, then took it out went & got yet another pump still same issues.)
I know this is old but felt the need to put this info here for other people experiencing these problems! I was helping a friend with a 2002 suburban and he replaced the fuel pump and he had to change the connector as well to the new oval shape gm has gone to. It looked pretty simple everything was color coded, all wires matched up and when we connected it to an older pump it fired up but when connected to the new aftermarket pump, we got nothing! First thought was defective part so got another and got the same results! In the end we used two wires and connected the fuel pump to a battery and all the wires where required to be in a different place in the connector! Check your pump and relocate the wires in the new connector! Hope this helps someone out!
Did this yesterday...matching the color code didn’t work on my 03 suburban either...found out that the black and white wire on the new hornace was the ground and it goes to the big black wire and the big black wire on the new hornace is the positive and it will goes to the gray wire..... I matched the purple with the purple and the gray wire from the new hornace to the small black wire and the pump came on my truck fired right up... hope this will help you
98 suburban has the 5.7 vortec it runs great no problem whatsoever until it warms up then runs rough on idle and eventually cuts off until it cools off and then it will cranck again anybody has got an answer for me
