How would people rate the 1990 Volvo GLS 740 16 valve, especially engine reliability?

Asked by Songwriter Jan 02, 2014 at 07:35 PM about the 1990 Volvo 740 GLE

Question type: General

The engine has 68K, pristine inside, moon roof still works, body totally straight and
probably garaged, paint still very good, only faded bumpers, starts immediately after three
weeks sitting, on the surface, really a classic volvo story. How much to pay for it? Oh yes,
engine compartment fairly clean too. Owner wants 2850.

$2850 is not far from reasonable. It's a 24 year old car, but Volvo's are well engineered from the get-go. Safe, reliable cars. Offer $2500 and I have a hunch the seller will jump on that. But from what you describe if they hold out for the $2850 go for it. A Volvo with only 68k miles of any 'age' is worth that.

PS...I tried to look up the KBB and other price of car guides, but none go back that far ..as long as you don't hear any strange noises while test-driving, it's not a bad deal
