Why would my truck lose power while driving and not start ?

Asked by Candace Oct 31, 2022 at 01:54 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 98 4wd 5.7 tahoe Been having transmission
problems 2nd 3rd out so I've been pushing it gaming it
to get it up to speed .
And had to cut the exhaust to get trans and trans case
out to work on it
So it's cut off at the O2 senser .

So it's been getting too much air and probably dirt for
sure .

I gave it gas it back fired and it died while driving
Tried to start it and it just kept turning over trying start

now it turns over but won't crank.
The fuel pump is good, fuses relays, crankshaft sensor
good , it's getting fire ? But won't crank .
It's not common the it jumped timing and it wouldn't be
turning over trying to start like it is right ???? I'm trying
to avoid taking the timing off , bc I don't think that's the
issue .
The distributor I think is the issue ?
I'm an OK mechanic persay for a female , I'm learning
as I go for sure .
Can someone help me please and thank you

If you're going to do nonsense like running without O2 sensors and hacking things up before testing anything then you should see a mechanic . The timing chain may be worn , that's why you test things , turning over is cranking , it turns over but doesn't start . No telling what else you have botched up .

This vehicle is 24 years old and has obviously seen much better days! Time to junk it and move on! It's not worth fixing! Jim

Why would you continue to drive a vehicle with no 2nd or 3rd gears. Your “gamin” on it has most likely caused it to jump time , and yes it will try to start with timing off probably trying to and BACKFIREING … RIGHT? HONESTLY you don’t need a viechle , and lack a lot being a mechanic.

No 2nd or 3rd gear so your solution is to push the vehicle. Now no start , I suggest you push it harder. You need to fix things as they go bad not continue driving a5 all cost . You don’t need a veichle.
