That's a judgement call, but you know your vehicle better than anyone else. How much $$$ do you wanna spend. For the work involved , you might consider doing the whole top end. Lifters, pushrods and cam. Also the timing chain and gears. With that much torn down, I would do a complete job, if it was my truck. A rebuilt short block is much cheaper than the long block and you can add alot of your parts to complete the short block too. There are bone yards out there with low mileage engines that might be close in cost to repairing your engine and cheaper than a crate short or long block. There's alot of possibilities. Do a complete compression check to determine if the engine is worth keeping. Does it burn oil ? What condition is the engine in , overall ? These are questions I'd be asking myself, before making a decision.

I have the same and heres some helpful info for you....At your local LKQ you can get heads for under $300 for 2 or option 2 pull the engine and replace it for $650 or less using LKQ or Craigslist to find one like i did for $400
How much do you love the truck? If everything else on the truck is in good working order and you plan on keeping it for a while, I suggest a new long block. You will have the larger outlay of cash up from but you know what you have at that point. Doing just heads will only buy you time.. At 220K, it wont be long before you have lower end issues, like bearings or rings... I would be surprised that at this mileage you don't already have lower end issues that may be masked. Taking care of heads now and then having lower end issues later will just cost you more and you may have waited your money and time doing heads.
