Problem with interior air distribution 2004 s-60

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 S 60 - Manual climate control with AC.  In heater or AC mode, the air distribution
knob does not change where the heat or AC comes out of, as it used to.  In most
positions of the knob, the flow comes out of the defroster.  In the lower positions
(around 6 o’clock) the flow comes out of the dash vents, but the flow is reduced.  How
are the physical components of the system actuated?  Can one tell if it is the climate
control head (knob etc.) or some other component?

After removing the glove box, I found that there was a small motor driving a cam - towards the centerline of the vehicle. While turning the "air distribution knob" I could see the cam/motor setup trying to rotate, but not moving well. I removed the motor and found that the cam turned freely. Sounds like a weak motor to me. I will replace and see how that goes.
