Any 5 cylinder engine that came in those cars from the factory should work. However, if your car is naturally aspirated, you should probably stay N/A. Ask anyone, and they will tell you it's more work than it's worth to convert to the turbocharged 5 cylinder from 2.4T, 2.5T or T5 models.

If you're asking as far as performance, you may want to ask around on a Volvo forum such as Matthew's Volvo Site or Volvospeed. You'll get more help there. I'm not aware of any swaps in an S60.
I have a 2006 s40 Volvo and I found a 2002 s60 Volvo, can I use part from the s60 in the s40?

It depends on the part. The S40 and S60 are very different cars. There may be one or two random engine parts that are compatible, but the engine is different and obviously the body is as well.
I am in need of a CV axel, flex pipe, and engine mount.

Unfortunately I think all of those parts are different on either car. Your best bet would be to look at another 2004.5-2011 S40 or V50. Those parts may also be interchangeable with a C30 or C70 model from 2007-2013.

Yes, it's the same engine. There may be a couple sensors that need to be swapped over, but the engine itself is the same.
