Body work is it worth it when you are selling.

We recently got hit in a parking lot and are on our own to have it repaired. It is a decently sized dent over the left rear tire. What will be more cost effective, to spend our $500 deductible and have it reported to carfax, or to sell as is. It is purely cosmetic but i feel like in both situations the guy that ran off after hitting me severely damaged the cars retail value either way.

The answer to your question depends on more than what you have mentioned. First of all have the damage accessed and see how much does it costs to get it fixed and compare that to the current value of the vehicle. See what suits you financially but you are right a considerable damage is done to the value of your vehicle either way. But some time after you see the cost of the repair and compare that to the value of the car it might help you make a decision. Just a thought, I am looking to purchase a used vehicle these days and the moment I see an issue with the carfax report I just close the car and move on to the next one. The estimate was $2500 mostly just in labor to prep for paint on two body panels so that it would be blended properly. We would only be out or deductible of 500. How does carfax determine what shows up? It would be nice if they included some explanation to differentiate between fender benders and major accidents that require engine, suspension or frame repair.
