Battery? Brain?

Any check engine light? Codes?

Not the check engine light. Not sure this is related: back-window glass light on since back-window glass was broken out. Glass replaced, but back hatch will not open. No Volvo Dealers around, difficult to get codes checked.

So, what happens when you try to start the car? Does it click or even try to start, or does it stay silent and do absolutely nothing? Do you get the usual ding when you turn the key? As for the rear glass, is it the defroster light (on the switch) or is it the "trunk opened" light on the bottom left of the cluster? It probably isn't related, but there might be a separate issue with the tailgate latch where it isn't hitting the switch to turn off that light. In which case, your battery might be dead if the light in the trunk has been on. Have you tried locking/unlocking the hatch with the key?

Absolutely nothing happens when I turn the key; no lights, no noise/ding, no starter click either. Bottom - left - lower- corner is for the hatch not being closed. Yes, it does unlock from the key. I was just able to clear some debris from the latch . . . on the hatch. Will vacuum soon. Possible Clue: At Christmas, my big brother (owner of a cluster of Volvos) told me that I could "leave my lights on". The car has not worked since then. Big Clue?

Sounds to me like the battery is totally dead, or not connected properly. In these cars, you can leave the headlight switch on the headlight position, but not the parking light position, as that will leave the lights on and drain the battery.

Sorry to bother you again. I have another question. IS THERE SUCH A THING AS I COULD HAVE A 'BAD DIODE' IN MY ALTERNATOR? Chatting with friend with import cars- - mentioned the diode thing. He explained that if it is a 'bad diode' it goes bad - kind of short circuits, resulting in a drained battery Does a Volvo even have those little diodes on the alternator?

Hmm... I guess it's possible. I'm not an expert with alternators, but I know the basics. It isn't TOO common, but these alternators do fail, and that very well could have happened to your car. If you bring the car (or just the alternator) into Autozone, they can test it for you for free. If it's bad, I recommend buying a used Genuine Volvo alternator from a junkyard or online from a Volvo parts supplier or eBay to save some money. Otherwise, get the Bosch alternator. I highly recommend FCP Euro for parts if you decide to go with that option.
