Noises

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My van started making a whomp nice and a
kind of clicking sound it sounds like it
comes from the front end. The whomp goes
away when I got 50 or so mph. The shop
said cv joints. So my dad and I replaced
those, wheel bearing, brakes are new, u
joints, but still makes the clicking and
whomp. I know the clicking is not coming
from the engine as it only does that when
I'm in motion. The shop has no clue what
they should do. Any suggestions?

Not sure what a "whomp" noise is but....have you checked your front tires for bubbles in the tires or belt seperations in the tires?....are they balanced? Motors mounts? are you getting vibrations in the vehicle?..keep note of when these noises occur ( speed, turning, going over bumps etc.) the more detailed you can be may help narrow it down.

The whomp sounds just like you say it. I had a front end alignment a few months ago. The noises occur all the time when motion.

Did this whomp sound come on suddenly or did it get worse over time? was it there before the alignment? one other thing I can think of that could cause this type of noise you explain is if you have a bad or broken strut. the front wheel could be having more up and down travel as a result of a bad strut (shock) I have seen that many times....also the " whomp" goes away at about 50mph....I would definetly look at the strut (shock) could be plain worn out or it could be broken....

Yeah it was pretty sudden. It wast there until about a month after the alignment.
