My 2004 Volvo XC90 needs new tires. Does anyone recommend something that will last longer and yet handle MN winters?

Ok...Hopefully, the link below works, if not, here are some recommended all-season tires that should also work well in snow for the XC90: Goodyear Assurance ComforTreds, Yokohama AVID ENVigor, Continental ExtremeContact DWS, Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. IF you want a set of dedicated Winter ONLY tires (that you can change out afterwards), Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 or Blizzak DM-V1 are both great choices IMO ------ http://www.volvo-forums.com/t6186-st-20-volvo-xc90-tire- recommendation.htm

I only threw that in there (Bridgestone Blizzaks) in the event that the OP is the type of person who may want the option AND is willing to spend the $$ for stand alone winter tires AND then change up to all-season tires for the rest of year ....This isn't how I roll, but some people do. That IS a funny name for a tire though, Judge..if that's what you're lol'ing about.

Thank you for the help. It appears these vehicles are hard on tires. At 120K I am will be on my 5th set. I've tried Michelin, Goodyear (twice) and Bridgestone. Rotating & aligning regularly helps, but they still manage to wear out too soon. I will investigate the Yokohama Parada Spec-X and Kumho KL51 APT.

You ALWAYS say that, Judge..but I'll be damned if I buy Generals..lol. The only General that I may EVER have MAY be the donut in the trunk! Otherwise, I need a better tire for my sportscar and my SUV. Guessing that you rock the Generals on your Mini Cooper? LOL! Glad you like 'em!

Kari....I've had some VERY good experience with Yokohama tires..they were the OEM tire for my 1993 Toyota MR2 (Rear Wheel Drive Sportscar) and they hugged the pavement like nobody's business when I was taking corners at speed. Very durable with superb handling even in the rain. Considering that I drove the car as it was meant to be driven, tread life was pretty darn good...There she is down below...I miss her :(

NO. racer_x still have the original yokohama's from the rental days~ The Prius was outfitted with Generals...the Toyota (after the cops made be get new tires) ended up being Generals...honestly have no loyalty, but their commercial is a bit uber-mench~ Kneel before Zod~

Hancock has 100k tires and the tread wear is not of this world. They are the best tires that I have ever owned. Better than any Michelin, Goodyear or Yokohama tires, I actually do not even have to check the weather on them, even though I do every day because I cannot believe what I am seeing. Absolutely no change in turbo wear. They are the Hancock H727 and just like my 15k Castrol Edge oil, they are liteally install/apply and forget. I do 36k a year and have been since 2011 with the same tires and I cannot see any wear.
