We have locks that are above the seat belt holders with black molded material that can't be moved. Does anyone know what these are for? Sorry this is on a 1997 Z3 convertible. Any ideas????

They could be for a removable hardtop. Does you key disengage the lock?
Very interesting. My '97 doesn't have those and I can't imagine what their function would be unless it has something to do with adjusting the seat belt tensioner. I'm guessing you don't have a key for it, so I would have a locksmith get it unlocked.
Check the build date on the vehicle as well. It could be a change over addition or deletion.
Yes we do have the key, it's like a cylinder lock. The black part seems to be connected in some way that we can't remove it even after unlocking with key. Also we've asked several mechanics for BMW but they are puzzeled as well. Any other help is appreciated thanks.
