Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have tooken all the bolt or nuts on the timming cover still can not remove it to get
to water pump. I do not understand why they made it where the timming cover is
behind the pully where you can not remove it. And everytime i put a socket on the
large nut in the center of the pully it conitue to turn the pully along with the timming
belt. how can i remove the pump without taking off the pully and timming belt cover

The large pulley is the crank damper. You will need to remove the large bolt in the center of it. I would normally use an impact wrench. But if you don't have one handy you will need to stop the motor from turning over some way so you can crack that bolt loose. If it's a manual you could put it in gear and have someone step on the brake while you break it loose. If it's an auto you can take the torque converter inspection plate off and using a screwdriver or pry bar, jam the flexplate from turning. Once that bolt is off, the damper / pulley may slide off, other times it may require the use of a puller.
