Sounds like you need a plain old tune-up, spark plugs (maybe) plug wires, check timing, fuel filter especially. All the regular maintenance necessary to keep it tip- top. There are just to many variables to try to list here

Has had plugs and wires changed. Tranny has been rebuilt. Oil changed. Fuel filter is new. Was hoping I might have a bad sensor somewhere.

does it idle very rough? if soo are all sparkplugs firing? could be the ignition module(under the coils).

Check the manifold vacuum while idling and check fuel pressure.
