2001 Buick Park Ave has gas in the oil what does this mean?

I was given a 2001 Buick Park Ave by my dad who has had it since it was new
has been kept up by the same dealership since it was new and all work over
the years has been by the Buick dealer. I drove the car from NJ top FL with no
issues,. Today the check engine light came on so I park check the fluids, and
smell a strong odor of gas in the oil please tell me what this may mean.
