There are a lot of things that can affect the way the car runs. I would look at the ignition, I just saw a video where 2 of the three coils were bad and the car would actually run on 2 cylinders. You can get an idea if the coils are working by pulling the plug wires one at a time...Caution, you can get a good shock, won't kill you, but the best way is to pull the wire at the coil, hold the wire with insulated pliers and see if the spark will jump from the coil to the end of the wire...if it is strong enough to do that then the coil is good...check each coil. It can also be the module under the coils, these have been known to overheat and the potting compound runs out the crack under the coils.
