MAF Sensor problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm pretty sure I need to replace the MAF sensor on my 2001 Buick Regal GS. Starting
idling bad yesterday, loss of acceleration, stalling. Get code reader hooked up and
sure enough it is showing MAF code. I realize that the 105 degree temps we are
getting where I live don't help any. So went and got a MAF sensor cleaner and used
this morning, when it was cooler. Car ran better for about 5 minutes and then started
having the same problems again, albeit not to as bad of a degree. So I'm thinking the
sensor is just shot. Does anyone have any advice about what I could maybe try before
spending the $100 on a new one? And if I do have to get a new one, does anyone
know if the Dorman brand works as well as the original ones? Will just replacing the
sensor cut it, or should I replace the mount and wiring harnesses too?

Don't recall low or high. Don't know about the voltage and contacts. I'm not a mechanic, I just know a little bit. I suppose it is back to research for me. But it is good to know there are other things I can try.
