Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 97 cavalier z24 with a 2.4l dohc in it. I bought the car with a blown motor in it so me and my uncle overhauled the motor. After that i was messin around and spun the bearings on crankshaft. Now i have a new motor in it but for some reason it seems to be smoking white from the exhaust. and once in a while it almost dies from the idle. Im thinkin the idle air controll sensor is messed up anyone got any tips?

my guess is the head gasket that is usually the case if it is white smoke
yeah i agree with andrew, white smoke usually means anit-freeze is getting in the cylinders
I have tried to figure it out and my only guess could be is that on a brand new motor the rings in the number four cylinder havent seated yet because i checked the spark plugs and the number four cylinder is soaked in oil so i think that the white smoke is oil burning in the number four cylinder idk?
when u see the smoke, does it have almost a sweet smell to it or does it smell like something burning?
if its more of a burning smell then that means its burning oil, oil must be getting into the cylinders somehow. check ur compression and if u can, do a pressure test with a spark plug pulled out and see if theres any kind fluid getting in but it does seem like a head gasket might be shot
aight thanks dude ill check it out more and let you know if i figure out the problem
cool man, u can always hit me up on my profile page if its easier to contact me
