97 Cavalier Z24 2.4L Mystery Coolant Leak

Asked by wireglitch Jul 19, 2016 at 08:28 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is a coolant leak which seems to be located toward the right rear side of the engine around the area where the coolant outlet and heater connectors are. I have replaced the coolant outlet and pulled and inspected the heater pipe assembly. The outlet replacement did not fix it and the heater hose assembly is in good condition and I cannot find the leak. Where else might it be coming from?

Double check heater hoses and tubes the type with black plastic connectors and elbows, Y's T's are notorious for TINY pin holes and splitting .. IT may only leak under pressure and be just a fine spray, DRY everything and try to isolate each section until its located.

I went ahead and just ordered a replacement heater hose assembly. I will swap out the old hose clamps for fresh ones and see if that fixes it. And my last ditch effort is to try some sealing product like fiberlock. Do you have any experience with a product like fiberlock? or another cooling leak sealer you can recommend? Thanks again for the quick response

Try and avoid "fixes" as fiberlock or countless other cures in a can.. The heater hose assembly replacement will likely cure your leak.
