My engine gauge is showing hot but my oil isn't hot

Well the car is overheating - most common problem is a failed thermostat, but could be a bad water pump
can the cap of the coolant resvior only hold so much pressure is that why it might start to come out ?

That could be correct Tyler however, if the heat gauge is showing that is running hot MStamps1answer above is more plausible. I would start with the thermostat, its a $15 part and there are several Youtube videos on how to replace it (its super easy). Cavaliers are actually very reliable cars despite what people may say. Before you jump to fixing the water pump (a costly repair on an older vehicle), I would go the stat route.. I hope this helps man!
correct - its a safety measure to keep the radiator from springing a leak
Thanks guys I'll be back if I need more help :)
A question what if a whiter smokes coming out of the exhaust ?

Hello again Tyler. That can mean a number of things but if the car is overheating in combination that can sometimes mean the head gasket is blown or leaking. I wouldn't drive the car until you've changed the thermostat, and if that doesnt work, get her to a shop and have them look at the head gasket. If you Google "Head Gasket Symptoms" two of the big things are white smoke, and overheating. Best of luck!
