2007 caliber shut off and won't start
I was driving down the street and my
car started making a really loud
squeeling sound. so I pulled over at a
gas station and shut the car off but it
kept squeeling along with a rattling
sound coming from the motor. I got
back in and made sure it was off and
it was. I started it back up and it
made a popping sound for a second
then the squeeling went away. I
popped the hood and belt was
spinning fine and no grinding from
pullys. When I opened the hood
there was a little smoke on the
drivers side of the motor and a burnt
rubber type smell. I drove straight
home. About 5 miles with no issues.
When I got home I kept it running
and popped the hood to try and
locate the sound. Seemed to be
coming from the back of the motor. I
thought maybe a heat shield because
the sound didn't change with
acceleration.
So I figured maybe the electric fan
bearings went bad and that would
explain why I heard the sound when
the car was off. The fan was not
spinning as well. So I checked temp
and it was a quarter of the way up.
Figured to trouble shoot the fan I
would just give it a little gas and see
if it cut on. When the car got to half
way on the temp gauge it just shut
off. Now it will not start. No crank at
all. My battery is still fully charged.
Dome lights are bright as well as
dash lights etc. I don't even get a
clicking sound. I let the car sit for an
hour and tried to restart it and
nothing. I have no idea what this
could be because the motor sounded
healthy before it shut off. No shakes
no knocks no sputters etc. Any help
would be appreciate.
