Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son was driving our 2007 Dodge Caliber when the gear shift warning light
came on. He said it was yellow and looked like a stick shift. When the light
came on the car slowed down and he could not accelerate. After stopping car
for about 15 minutes he started it up and drove home (10 miles) with no light
and no symptoms. I test drove it and did not note any shifting issues. What is
going on with this car?

Transmission went into limp mode. Check fluid levels and smell. He may have also been hotrodding and overheated the transmission.

Mine has done it 2 times now. I was told to get a new filter and fluid. Monday that's what I'm going to do. Sure hope it fixes the problem.

I've also had a problem of when I put it in gear. I get a big clunk. Then takes a few seconds Tito go into gear. I was going to replace the transmission. The guy at the auto parts said it sounded like only needed a new filter and fluid. He recommended a garage to take it to and they said the same thing. I hope it fixes the problem. Monday morning 7 am.
