it just shut off. It cranked over just fine, no start. I got it towed home. I can hear
the fuel pump running when I turn the switch on. I sprayed starting fluid in the
carb, starts and runs till that fluid is gone. Please advise, I'm at a loss.

Check fuel injectors, note the diagram. That top pink wire, in diagram, is voltage, fuse protected, goes hot with key on. Use a test light, check for voltage at pink wire, key on. If no voltage check fuse and wring circuit. The bottom wire off injector is ground, controlled by vcm. The fuel injector needs voltage and ground. use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on, engine off. 60--66 psi. Do you have the spider fuel system or sfi?
Change the fuel filter. Make sure there is gas in the tank.
