Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Verna with mt 85000. The steering get hard to turn suddenly. When I turn off the motor it works properly then. Do any body know what's the problem or this is a normal in this kind of cars? I asked a mechanic about this and he informed that this kind of cars has electric power steering and not hydraulic one. He suggested that I have to replace it with a hydraulic power steering. Does this make sense?
