Maintenance doesn't have anything to do with the airbags themselves. Due to their age, it could be a sensor or other issue in the system. I would take it to a mechanic and have them pull the error codes from it and go from there.

You're welcome! Good luck getting it fixed up. Dash lights are annoying, trust me I know.
I have the same problem. One fine day, the airbag light came on and now it stays that way. The mechanic has to have a special airbag scanning tool to read the error code (general free scanning tool you find at Autozone etc will not read the code). After making few calls, a mechanic was ready to scan the airbag code for 20$ (while everyone else was asking about 70$, just for the scanning). My code came up as B1448 - The passenger side sensor went bad. The fix was to replace the passenger side car seat (which would cost about 900-1000$).

Thanks for your help. I had a feeling that was the cause. I have a Kenwood subwoofer under that same seat and it has been cutting in and out and the sensor for the passenger seat has been flickering occasionally. I appreciate your help

Great news for anyone having this Airbag light issue like me. The dealer is repairing it under warranty free of charge parts and labor and my Hyundai Accent is 10 years old. They are replacing the sensor in the passenger seat. They are also providing a free rental while they do it. I guess it's a safety issue and Hyundai as agreed to fix all these Airbag issues for free. Check with your dealer, you do NOT need to buy another passenger seat.
@kmspoonman - Is there any official Hyundai recall no for this? You said, if dealers are repairing under warranty (10 yrs), my car is 2007 (Hyundai accent GLS). Should I approach the local dealer before this 2017 ends? How do I convince the local Hyundai dealer to fix this under warranty/reacall?

I brought my car to Courtesy Hyundai in Pawtucket, RI they do all my service. I was expecting to shell out the $$$ for this repair but was presently surprised and floored when they told me they were fixing it for free parts & labor and they also providing me with a free loaner car as they said it could take two days to repair. They are replacing the Airbag sensor in the passenger seat. They are not replacing the seat itself. So I'm guessing they have to remove the fabric and whatever to put in a new sensor. I was told it is under warranty. My car is also a 2007 which i bought new and i have 186,785 awesome miles on it. Only recently has this car cost me any money. Other than routine maintenance I haven't done a thing to this car. In the last three months my ORIGINAL Alternator, starter, battery and motor mount have had to be replaced. But that's it. I would buy another in a minute! Good Luck. Courtesy Hyundai 939 Newport Avenue Pawtucket, RI 02861 1-401-723-2200
I recetly got my 07 Accent airbag fixed under recently extended warranty by Hyundai.. I took a print out of the manufacturer communication #5NP-E4E2S-04. And that's it, the dealer replaced the sensor, no cost to me. Ref: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2007/HYUNDAI/ACCENT/4%252520DR/FWD#manufacturerCommunications
I've had an airbag light issue for several years and have had it in the dealership 5 times to fix. The light stays off for a few weeks and then back on. They've replaced the airbag and, this last time, the sensor, but still not working right. Now they just want me to trade it in. No way do I want another Hyundai; this dealership can't seem to fix the problem. I currently have the red airbag light on the dash on all the time and the Passenger Airbag is Off light is on even when someone is in the passenger seat.

My dealership replaced the bottom of my passenger seat, the sensor, the fabric cover and replaced the lamp on the dashboard and they did it for free as they said it was still under warranty. Best of luck in fixing your issue.
i have problem with my hyundai car is showing that air bag light is on

I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent which currently has 210923 miles on it. About 20K miles ago my airbag light came on. I brought it to Courtesy Hyundai in Pawtucket, RI and they fixed it for FREE. I needed a new passenger side "bottom" seat replacement which contained the air bag sensor for the passenger. They explained to me that they had to replace it by law and that warranty was not a factor in their decision to repair it for free. Good luck but you need to have this addressed because their is a very good chance that as long as the light is light your air bags may not deploy in the case of an accident. NOTE My car is not your average Hyundai nor am I your average owner...I have changed my Oil EVERY 3000K mi without fail, I rotate tires every other oil change, follow all manufacturer recommendations for service intervals, have changed my timing belt five times, replaced my 10 year old radiator, water pump and all hoses before they could fail, replaced the front axles before their was any issues, etc. etc. My 2007 Hyundai runs and drives as good as the day I drove it off the lot new. Will be buying a new one soon and giving this one to my Nephew who just got his license. GOOD LUCK
I recently toik my 2013 accent to the dealer for diagnostic but i have no warrenty so i was told 130$ for the scan, after reading online about other people having this cost waivered I emailed huundai and they waived the cost for me so im made an appt for next week
