Are dealerships guilty of false advertising by lying about price drops?

Two times now, I've contacted a dealership regarding a price drop (the last was a $3000
drop) only to find that the price drop was incorrect and, though the original listed price was
accurate, they would be willing to come down.  Are dealerships using your service to lure
customers in?  Isn't this false advertising?

If a price is posted and published on paper and internet by the dealer regarding a specific car then the price must be maintained regardless of the intent of the dealership. Many states have rules and regulations against it. Contact your State Attorney General and file a complaint.

I agree! These car search sites (not just this site) are all proclaining "GREAT DEAL" or "GOOD DEAL" when the prices listed are simply not accurate. You find listings for CPO vehicles that want to charge $1000 extra for the CPO warranty, and listings with "Dealer Documentation Fees" up to $799 that are not included in the listed prices. This practice invalidates the entire premise of ranking vehicle pricing values.
