Dealer stripped oil drain plug

Asked by eltri31 Dec 26, 2018 at 10:38 AM about the 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 Avalon, 63,000 miles. This dealer has been the ONLY one to EVER
service this vehicle. Today, I was told that the drain plug is stripped and I need
to replace the oil pan at a cost of around $500. Do you think it is fair that I bear
any responsibilty to pay for this repair?

Heck no! He's just trying to sucker you into paying for his mistake. I believe there is a repair kit that allows the drain hole to be rethreaded and fitted with a larger, new drain plug. Replacing the pan is not necessary. If he doesn't cooperate, pay the bill on credit card and stop payment, tell him your lawyer will contact him. Really.
