I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla. When the key is in the ON position the Check Engine and Battery symbols lights up. However I havent seen this coming while driving or starting my car. I have been reading that when the key is in the ON position this is normal as long as it doesnt show up while driving. Can some one throw more light on this?

This is usually something that occurs in most, if not all cars. It's sort of a "systems check" (for lack of a better term)...and it is normal. If your car is OK, these lights will turn off after a few seconds and once you start driving it.

Thanks Racer for the response. Sigh of relief.

My 2006 does the same thing. No worries. The battery symbol lights up because the engine is not running and therefore alternator is not charging. You actually should see oil pressure warning light on also.
