Driver side water running on me from where the felt and plastic meet on the front window post.

Mike, I found the problem. It was the top seal around the front windshield. It was a long process finding it, because the leaking water patterns, didn't follow a "windshield leak." Good luck. Penny1202

Hi Penny, I think you are right...I noticed that on the driver side, the rubber seal on the outside between the windshield and the roof was sticking out compared to the passenger side. Maybe water was getting in under the rubber . I pushed it back down and after a "little" rainfall, everything was dry! Hopefully it will be the same with a bigger rainfall. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for the solution, I appreciate it! Mike

Penny, Mike, yes, I had this exact same problem and also thought it was the moon roof drains, but it is not. After pouring water all over different places on the roof / sunroof, I finally realized that it is coming in through the top strip of the windshield weather stripping. Mine is only leaking on the left side (as of now). That being said, my stripping is pushed in, so I don't know what my next step will be, need to research if full windshield replacement is necessary or if I can just do the stripping.

I have the same problem on both driver and passenger sides and have no sun roof...any help is appreciated!

I think I have the same issue on the passenger side of my 05 Vibe.(no sunroof) I suddenly have it dripping out of the plastic trim on the a pillar also causing the felt like roof material to become soaked. And All I can figure is that its leaking from the windshield, but I'm not certain. Would love to hear a fix so I can figure out how to proceed

I have an '05 Vibe. Same problem, dripping from both sides where headliner meets the A pillar plastic. After clearing the sunroof drains (I don't think they were clogged) I still had the problem. What I did: 1. Removed the A pillar plastic both sides 2. Removed both sun visors 3. Removed passenger side grab handle (roof) 4. Removed sun visor clips (1/4 twist counter clockwise) 5. Gently pulled the front of the headliner down about 3" so you can see the windshield to body area. 6. Put the hose on all over the front part of the roof I had a leak running through the windshield gasket almost directly above the rear view mirror. Water was simply running down the U shape of the top of the headliner and running down to exit at both the driver and passenger side top where the headliner meets the A pillar plastic and depositing water on me and my unhappy passengers. I found from the outside that some of the seal was broken right where the leak was. Maybe the proper way is to have the windshield professionally pulled and re-glued and a new gasket. What I did was use some marine grade rtv sealer in black. First prepped the area with Wax/Bug remover. Let dry. Then used rubbing alcohol as a final clean. Then I applied the rtv from the passenger to the driver side top windshield area. I pushed a bit down into the hole. Then cleaned up as you would if you were caulking anything. After 12 hours I applied the same hose to the whole area. No leaks. I'm not sure how long this will last but it sure is a cheap way to do a temp DIY job and maybe it'll stay for awhile.

I also have this issue on my 06 Vibe.. started about three months ago on the driver's side. Mine only leaks after a rainstorm and I'm doing over 20kms/hour. Anyone know how much a new gasket is? I like the DIY info but it's a little above my abilities.

My 05 vibe had the same issue the pinch weld on the top corner of the windshield was bad allowing water to enter 200$ trip to the body shop on top of the cost of the glass replacement got it back today no leaks yet it's rained all day. But the trim that fit so nicely has been replaced with some generic straight crap that doesn't match the curve of the windshield at the corners. Doesn't the trim completely cover up to the roof molding, or am I not remembering things right

I have an 06 XR Matrix with the same problem, Penny. I live in Portland, Oregon and I noticed it toward the end of last winter. Our summer was dry, so no issue, but now that it’s raining again I have a puddle on the drivers side floor next to the door. Someone suggested it might be coming from the sunroof, but I don’t think so. Thank you for the information you provided. I’ll bring it to My body shop and hopefully they can fix it. I called a car awater seal specialist an hour ago and he wants approximately $300 fo diagnose and fix it. Did you end up replacing your windshield?

05Matrix gave a great history/explanation. I have one modification to suggest however. Silicone is not a good material for the windshield because it expands and contracts with temperature changes. It is recommended to use a BUTYL sealer.

Finally fixed 05 Vibe leak: The problem was that the drain tubes which run from the channels that collect water around the sunroof were not draining properly. The dealer "tested" the drains in theory and found there to be no issue--yet the problem persisted. We took the car back, and the dealer showed us in the lot how water drained from the front drain lines by pouring water onto the car. We were flummoxed as to why the car still had a leak. It took us a while to figure out ourselves: yes, the drains in the front worked--and one in the back worked--but the other rear drain line was blocked because during the manufacturing process a screw which attached an interior rear panel went straight threw the other rear drain line and pinched it. If the car were in a rainstorm and were on an uphill angle (even slightly) causing the water to run toward the back drains, the blocked rear line would back up, causing a leak from the channels in the roof of the car. For example, if the car were parked in a driveway that angled even slightly down toward the street in a rain storm, this would cause the front drains not to be used (as water would run toward the rear) and leaking would occur because of the blocked drain. So far, GM reps have not taken ownership of the problem or the costs associated over the years with dealing with this defective drain line.

I own a 2008 Pontiac Vibe and water started infiltrating my car on the driver's side, next to the plastic pillar and adjacent to the felt covering. I used a very strong sealant on my front windshield thinking water was coming in on the upper left corner of the windshield seal. Water spills out when I accelerate from a complete stop. Hopefully the sealant I put over the windshield seal will end this problem. Funny thing is, I've owned this car for almost 8 years and it just started having this issue. Thanks for everyone else's comments. Seems Toyota/NUUMI (GM) may have had a problem with the original front windshield seal.

Add me to the list. '06 Vibe leaking from the R front corner of the windshield. Our '04 Vibe leaked after the cracked windshield was replaced, requiring Safelite to return and reseal the job. Maybe the design of the window frame is difficult to make a good deal.. annoying

Yup, my matrix xr does this too. The roof pee's a after a rain storm on the drivers side where the plastic meets the felt. If I turn a corner, a little water comes in. I've read all above, but haven't figures out where to apply the sealant to try to fix the leak based on the above notes.

My was leaking about 2 Years. I tried caulking but was temporary. Then I just tarp front side. Again, only temporary. Tired of tarping or forgetting to tarp and it rained. Going to fix it right. Autoglass shop will need to remove glass, identify leak source. Grind rust, prepare surface with body filler or epoxy prime. Paint and replace glass with new gasket. This is the only long term solution if you want to keep car for 10 more years. Cost about $450. Good luck.
