had my 2006 toyota timing belt changed and now it wont start
they are telling me that the crank sensor may have been bumped during repair, im really concerned that the timing marks may have been off when they did the repair causing damage to push rods, valves, and pistons while they are trying to start it. what should I do?
take the timing cover off...examine the timing marks...turn the engine around manually to find TDC~ make sure the timing belt tensioner is installed correctly and has tension (around 3/16 or 4mm) should be the right amount of tension~ assure the tensioner idler is tracking straight and true~ going to check now to see if this is an interference motor...okay~
...okay...let's be optimistic here.....put a compression tester on each cylinder and note the amount of compression and dry leakdown times~ all eight cylinders and report back~
....assuming your CHALKED timing marks are where they belong~....yes, yours is an interference engine...marks line up...let's check the compression on each cylinder....this won't hurt a bit~
ok, its at a service garage and I can ask them to do this. but is it possible that the crank sensor is the problem. they are saying they may have hit or bumped it? and what should these reading normally be?
yes...zero ohms...this is an inductive field-effect transistor...(or half of it)...should measure zero ohms or close to that~
