Over heating

I have a 1996 Chevy Blazer and the other day I
started it and started driving and it started running
hot I put water in it and it went down the next day
kept running hot and I had to keep pulling over and
putting more water in the radiated I was told to put
a stop leak in the radiator but it's still running hot
when I touch the radiator it's not hot under the
hood

If your using temp gage to determine if engine is running hot, don't, use some other means to check engine temp. You can use a non contact infrared temp gun, just point it at warm engine and pull the trigger, if will give you temp reading. See if it matches temp gage? You may have air pocket around temp sending unit/cts? If you losing coolant, you need to fix it. I don't like stop leak. As far as the coolant over flow bottle, is the coolant boiling over or filling up in a hurry? Are there signs of engine over heating besides temp gage?
No. When it gets hot and I pull over and open the hood I can put my hand on the radiator and it's not hot to the touch like the needle on the dash indicates.
It's probably reading wrong but if you're losing coolant stop leak is just going to ruin your cooling system. You need to find the leak. It could be and sounds like a head gasket or cracked head... can you visually see where you are losing water... also please dont use water from your sink... it has minerals in it that will plug your radiator. Use gallons of distilled water with a 50/50 mix of concentrate antifreeze or a premixed antifreeze. Water alone in the winter will freeze and crack your engine block
