I have a check engine error in my 2007 Ford Explorer...

It is real and you probably need to replace the sensor.

Might also be a vacuum leak. Don't replace the sensor without verifying. How does the vehicle run and idle?
Even if the code is cleared with the proper analyzer, it will return when the fault is detected by the PCM/ECM again.
