Heat will not work, but a/c does

Asked by Noah Nov 01, 2017 at 04:36 PM about the 2007 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So air will not get warm when the heat is on. It just blows the temperature
outside. The a/c work fine. However, when i get out of the car I i smell
something like burning rubber. There seems to be a little smoke or steam
coming from what looks like the a/c line.

Check the coolant level, sounds like a blown radiator hose.

Thank you OJ, however, the coolant level appears to be fine and the car does not overheat.

After going for a drive, open the hood and feel both black lines going to the heater core on the left side of the engine compartment. With the system turned to heat, both hoses should be hot. There should also be a vacuum valve on one of the lines which prevents hot water from entering the cabin when the system is not in heat mode. Make sure it is operating. There could also be a problem with the blend door actuator which moves the door from hot to cold when selected. Check the net. There should be videos of how the actuator works and how to replace it if faulty.
