Why won't It start after fuel filter replacement?

Asked by Heather Oct 30, 2021 at 04:31 PM about the 2004 Buick Rendezvous CX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Buick Rendezvous  3.4l V6.
My husband was at a friends place and the
vehicle was very very low on fuel when he
decided to go up an incline and I think as he
did it ran out of gas  he got it back on flat
ground and we replaced the fuel filter but it
wont start. It cranks but won't start the fuel
pump seemed to be working fine before this
incident, any help would be grateful.
Thanks
Heather

Most likely the fuel pump is bad. When you run a vehicle out of gas the fuel pump motor can quickly burn out. The gasoline flowing through the pump motor cools and lubricates it. Turn the ignition on but don't try to start it. You should hear the fuel pump run for about 5 seconds. If not, that's definitely what happened. Hope that helps! Jim
