no if check engine light is on it is telling you something is wrong .take it in for a scan

Could be related as the TCM (trans control) is tied to the ECM/PCM which is engine light. It's time to take this in for a dealer scan. Obviously there is an intermittent problem with some part of the traction control system which may be linked to or causing the MIL light to illuminate.
Amazingly, mine did this merely for a misfire caused by a bad tank of gasoline. Misfire is the #1 cause of the SES light on our cars - if it is running ok, try filling with fresh Supreme and see if that helps.
The traction light coming on is usually cause be a bad ABS sensor, or sometimes a bad alternator. If it's not charging enough, the light will come on due to a low system voltage.

I had the same exact problem with this. First the traction light would go on and off, then the abs light came on and stayed on. We took it in and got a new abs sensor put in, and both lights dont come on anymore. They said we didnt need it fixed cuz no matter what regular brakes work. The part was really expensive to fix. For a new one your looking at 1,000!!! We got a used one and only spent 500. We fixed it cuz the light was annoying.
pull out the wheel speed sensor and clean it most of the time this is the problem
If you bring it to an Autozone, they will throw it on there Scanning device for free. Saves you a lot of money rather than bringing it into a dealership
Just a note to let you know that Autozone no longer provides free scanner tests anymore. They use to. I guess they are trying to sell scanners now. I've heard that Amco does it free. Gil raker
did you ever find out what the problem was with the traction control light coming on and off and the check engine light, mine does the same thing and havent figured it out yet.
if you live in a area where it is snowing and one of the front wheels spins just a little that is what is causeing the track light to come on,once traction is back to normal it will go off.
yea but this is happening durring the summer, dry and warm climate
Bad wheel sensor, that sounds like it could be it. Does anyone have a minor or easy discrption of where the wheel sensor is located so that I can replace it on my own? It would be a great help if known from anyone.
look for a wireing harness going to back of break calaper, behind it you will see it,no problem to replace, unplug it,remove 2 10mm bolts replace.
Mine did this for 2 years, four different scans by four different mechanics showing no codes stored. I took it to Fairborn Buick in Ohio and their mechanic Alan knew what it was right of the bat, CRACKED INTAKE. He replaced the intake and also tuned the vehicle and it stopped the service light/traction control problem. The Riveria has never ran better.
