1995 Riviera over revs past 3,000 RPMs.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1995 Buick supercharged Riviera makes this over rev sound when I accelerate past 3,000 RPM. It dose not accelerate any more and I have to go back down below 3,000 RPM and apply the gas gradually. It mostly happens when I try to get on the freeway or when I punch it. Could it be that replacing the plugs and plug wires will fix this problem? I have heard that the 3.8 Supercharged V6 in the Riviera puts out a lot of engine heat and the plug wires need to be replaced from time to time. I just found this website and hope someone here knows about the GM 3.8 supercharged motor.

Welcome to a very informative auto board on Riviera's. What you have described appears to be a problem with the vehicle's ECM..(engine computer) which causes the transmission not to engage into high gear and appears the trans is slipping. Good Luck and again welcome aboard.
