Abs

Asked by CollinT Oct 16, 2016 at 10:07 PM about the 1995 Buick Riviera Supercharged Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 95 Buick Riviera and the abs light
isn't on but it feels like the abs is locked on
cause when you take off from a dead stop it
takes forever to get going and its sluggish
when you take off from a stop sign. Any
ideas what it could be?

Check your exhaust pipes while idling to determine if there is free passage..maybe you catalytic converter is stopped up..

If you feel it is a sticking caliper, start in the back and jack up a wheel and try to spin it...while still up, push the brake pedal hard then try to spin it. In the front it would work best if you could get both wheels off the ground and try the same above. It seems like that most of the "sticking calipers" are caused by a failed flex line going to the caliper.. These lines have a plastic inner line, then rubber/plastic around that to protect the line then the outer covering. Quite often the inner plastic line crack and depending on how it cracks, it can act as a one-way or check valve...when you push on the pedal, there is enough pressure to push fluid past these problems (most of the time) but when you release the pedal there is little pressure to return the fluid past the restriction so the piston does not retract immediately and sometime not at all. One problem is you cannot see these failures, but testing the wheels by turning them gives you a clue to which wheel to start.
