what does a body control module....control??

Asked by barbaralynn Mar 14, 2017 at 04:21 AM about the 1995 Buick Riviera Supercharged Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The hvac has a mind of its own. It will run temp full high or full low by itself. Will pwr. on when it was off. Radio does the same, starts searching stations by itself, volume goes to max.  Seems to be the functions of the center pod. With headlights off all center pod lights work, turn lights on all lights go out on the pod. I have been told it is the body control module. I can't find out what the module controls. Seeing that bcm is almost impossible to find and expensive, I'd really appreciate some info. Thanks

The Body Control Module BCM, seems to have control of almost everything but the engine. Example, the engine temp goes to the engine module, which send it to the BCM. which send it to the instrument cluster. It may choose not to allow the heater fan to turn on until the engine temp get warm enough for you to feel it...so it does not blow cold air on you. Different cars are programmed differently.

Just found out on my 93 Buick Riviera my friend said it is up in the dash behind the radio. In other words right hand side behind first instrument panel
