Need advice on car sale

Asked by GuruDWRNJW May 23, 2024 at 11:02 AM about the 2005 Jaguar S-TYPE 3.0L V6 RWD

Question type: General

Brought a Jaguar S type,V6 2.7 D, SE for £2100 from Woodside Vehicals Ltd,
1-7, Peters Street, Bury, Gt. Manchester, BL9 6AB. The advert, on line, told me
they would deliver to my door, they had a 7 days return policy and offered a 4
month warranty. After asking Ali, the salesman, as many questions as I could
over the phone I felt confident enough to go ahead with the purchase.
Car arrived Friday 03/05/2024 at 5pm (approx). On Monday 06th I drove the
car for the first time, it broke down and I had to call the AA. Quick, cost free fix,
something to do with the fuel pump. Wednesday, the next time I drove the car
an engine warning light came on the dashboard. I drove it directly to my usual
garage that services my cars and asked them to check it over for me. Couldn’t
do the job until Friday and at lunchtime they phoned with the bad news. 10
pages of faults and 2 photos of underbody rust. I was told by the seller that the
car was rust free. Having this news I immediately contacted the seller telling
him that I wanted them to collect the car and I wanted a full refund. I was told
somebody would contact me later. They never did. I contacted them on the
Saturday to be told by Ali that he was in a meeting and would contact later. He
never has and now my calls go unanswered and my texts are ignored. I think
my phone may have been blocked.

Since this is The United States version of Cargurus I don't know anything about British Laws. However, I would suggest you speak to a consumer affairs advocate or attorney in your area. I will also point out that this is why, no matter where you live, you should never ever buy a vehicle sight unseen! On a long distance purchase have the vehicle inspected by a professional inspection company before you decide to buy it. That way you know exactly what you're buying. Here, in The United States there's a company called lemonsquad.com that I've used for my long distance purchases with excellent results. Perhaps there's similar companies in England that could perform this service for you in the future. Lastly, Cargurus is an advertising site only. Similar to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. They don't buy or sell anything so they have nothing to do with that aspect of any purchases. I'm very sorry for your misfortune but I hope I was able to help you! Jim
