my hood release has came loose XJ8 under dash battery down and valley button has been enabled must have some battery power for trunk to open and disingage the valley button cant

Harold, I'm having a little trouble interpreting your comment.You need to use a little punctuation so I can separate the problems. When you say "valley"; do you mean "valet"? I am also having the problem where I cannot release the hood latch (left side stays down, right side releases fine). I have removed the wheel and well cover on the affected side, but I could find no access hole to get a tool into. I have heard that you might be able to access left latch mechanism from the interior through a rubber grommet/plug. I've yet to try this but I would do this before any modification (i.e. drilling a hole through the steel plate from inside the wheel well in the vicinity of the latch). You will be able to jump the battery if you get the hood up. I'm going to try something today and see if it works, and I'll follow up with any new information gained be it positive or not. My experience is primarily with 1970s and earlier Jags, but now that I have 2000 and 2001 XJ8's I'm trying to expand my knowledge and help anyone avoid costly work. Take care, Jacopo
