96 Chevy lumina starts then stalls

Asked by Chris May 13, 2019 at 12:14 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Lumina LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 lumina with the 3.1l that stalled
while it was on the road. When it stall it’s was
due to fuel not getting to the engine, so I
replaced the fuel filter which allowed it to
start but now it stalls. So far I have checked
the pump relay, idle air, cleaned the MAF and
checked good, replaced the TPS because it
was hanging, MAP sensor, replaced the FPR
and that now allows it to start and come to
an idle for a minute but it still stalls, also
checked the water temp sensor and the cam
positioning sensor which were good. I’m
going to check the ground on the pump and
check the pcm to see how they are. Does
anybody have any suggestions on what
could be the cause?

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Any applicable trouble codes? To check codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader that will work with your vehicle. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, 40--47 psi, key on engine off. If the reading is in the middle, should be fine. I haven't looked at your security system, where applicable? If your losing rpm signal check crankshaft position sensor. I'm not saying replace anything.

When it dies will it immediately start back up? If it wont you need an inline spark tester to detwrmine if your losing spark
