how many miles on it? I have a buick like ur model that has 220,000 miles and have gone thru all of ur challenges. How long was the car spouting white smoke out of the tail pipe before u did the head gasket?

How was it driving before this happened? With a Camshaft or crankshaft positioning sensor....your car would be dying while ur driving....did this happen? Need more info

I had same problem with my 98 Buick Riviera a while back, It ended up being a bad coil. Check all of your plugs and see if some of them are black and fouled out. If so try a new coil pack. You might have one or more that are bad. Just get one (around $25) and move it from one location to the next. It is possible to have a bad backplane on the coils as well. Sometimes you can see a spark leak if you put the car in a dark garage and have someone crank it over while you look at wires and coil packs for spark leakage.

It was overheating but it was running befor I did the head gasket on it I took the coils to auto zone they told me they were all good popped off the Cam position sensor they told me that It was no good got a new one still no work took plugs out the look new notting on they then I checked the plug wirer to see if it had spark NO SPARK do u know of any thing I can try im about to scrap the bitch

I wouldn't listen to some goober at auto zoo , I don't think they have the equipment or expertise to check a sensor like that it would need to be installed , ,you need to check these things for yourself , is there power to the coils ? Is the timing correct ? If there's no spark I would think the plugs would be wet with gas ,

Have not yet tested coils for power. I dont think I mast with the timing and how wood the plugs be wet with gas what dose that Mean ?

timing is just one possibility down the checklist , if you're cranking it over with no spark and there's proper fuel pressure and the injectors are firing then the plugs are going to have gas on them or smell like gas ..

My Buick //GM car has 3 coils.....I replaced all 3, and replaced the camshaft positioning sensor and the crankshaft positioning sensor. Those seem to be the main culprits of my past . My suggestion is to get over to AutoZone and rent a scan tool and hook up to your car. Tell me what codes does it read. That needs to be done first, otherwise everyone is guessing

For sure ill do that dariusk and I will let u I know as soon as I do

My 98 Riv has had similar problem lately. I would look into the throttle.......specifically the throttle sensor. The part alone is $46....but apparently GM noted that the wiring harness goes bad (part w harness is called Gold sensor) on this as well. My car runs rough, doesn't shift right and high idle. I bought the throttle sensor and replaced (takes 10 min). I went back and ordered the Gold throttle sensor (with wiring harness) and should arrive tomorrow. You may experiencing the same area problem. When my car started.....and then died....I opened up the throttle and cleaned up the butterfly flap (both sides)....then my car did not die on me anymore. but the poor efficiency and all previous bad running is due to my Throttle sensor wiring harness.

You can also buy Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor cleaner since you are in the throttle area. Buy different cleaners for these separate parts....don't spray the same carb cleaner into the MAF......I understand it will eat the sensor up

On your engine are a number of black hoses. Since your car is same age as mine, I suggest you look closely at the Vacuum line from the throttle Body....to the EVAP Canister Purge valve. That hose tends to have the neck break off, near the throttle body and hidden by the thick wiring harness on top of it. I just noticed that on mine.....and replaced the cracked end with a kit at AutoZone.....car runs much smoother now
