bigger towing capacities thats about it the 1500 is a half ton the 2500 is a 3/4 ton and the 3500 is a 1 ton its all about towing if u dont tow or mud dont bother with a bigger truck just sucks more gas
Thank you John. I am hoping to pull a med. size travel trailer...worried about the gas though.
heavy duty suspension/ axles. if you tow, go for the 3/4 ton (2500), if you don't, stick with a 1/2 ton (1500). my 1999 suburban 1500 towed everythng i threw at it, but my 1994 2500 could pull down a house. if you opt for the 2500, you will encounter many diesel and big block powered trucks. if you have never owned a diesel before don't buy one; they're not for the faint hearted. the big block, 454 cu. in, engine is a powerhouse, but it could drink an irish sailor under the table. . .
no such beast as a 3500 suburban, although more than a few of the 3/4 ton 'burbans left the factory with a 1 ton rear.
There is such a thing as a 3500. I've got a friend selling one right now. "Eighth generation (1973–1991) With the third generation C/K models, the Suburban became a 4-door vehicle. The rounded 1970s body style remained largely unchanged for 18 model years - making this series the longest in production of any Suburban. Both 2WD and 4WD models, designated "C" and "K", were offered, as well as one-half ton and three-quarter ton ("10" and "20" on the Chevy, "1500" and "2500" for GMC) models. The one ton model designation was the C or K 30 for Chevrolet and 3500 for GMC." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Suburban
Hi I am interested in buying an older suburban. Having a hard time deciding between 1973 or 1992. Not a car savy person. Pretty sure wanting to stick to a 4WD. This wont be my primary daily drive. Going to buy a vintage camper to restore and use the burban to pull it. Love trucks but too many grandkids so looking for the seating. Have had a large passenger van when the kids where all still home, 7 of them. Now want something fun and a little cooler, lol. Any suggestions as to where to start?
