96 tahoe 4x4 1500 making a whinning noise after about 15mph

My 96 tahoe is making a whinning noise coming from the middle of the cab after about 15 mph.
I had the motor replaced... and then 8 months later I had the transmisson rebiult.
Now its making this noise. Its drives and shifts fine, I took it to a transmission shop
And they told me it was the rear end. But the noise isn't coming from the back.
It does it in reverse and in drive, when you are driving it and take your foot off the gas the noise quites down but
soon as you put your foot back on the gas, it comes right back.
Any help would be great!

And it gets louder the faster you go!
rear, transfer case, or (doubt it has one) carrier bearing.
Let em elaborate on my short answer from earlier, for starters it is very difficult to pinpoint a sound on the vehicle sitting in the drivers seat. The sound will travel through other pieces and come in through access holes so unless you are outside of the car then its almost impossible to pinpoint where it is coming from. Also from your explanation of when you let off the gas the noise get quieter that would be because the gears are not in a bind anymore but when you get on the gas they start having to work again to either maintain speed or accelerate and their is more friction hence the louder whine. Also the faster you go the faster the gears will spin and the louder they will get no matter what gear your transmission is in. Just so long as the noise is entirely speed dependent you can be fairly positive its your rear end that either needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

My 98 Tahoe LT 4×4 2door has been doing the same thing. When I get speed up to around 40 and above I hear a faint whining or buzzing sound that increases as speed increases. Sounds like it's coming from the speedometer.
