my sorento wont start after replaceing valve cover gaskets due it it jumping about 4 teeth on timing, just cranks and already tried cam and crank sensors what next, i have fuel and spark.

replaced valve cover gaskets and when I tried starting the car after job, heard loud banging noise and then car just cranked.  after awhile I finally took it apart to check timing and it jumped 5 teeth at crank.  also little plate came loose.  reattached plate and lined up belt and car still just cranks, I have spark and fuel and even tried new cam and crank sensors but just cranks like its out of time , putting and farting but the belt is right on the marks.  please help what next, car ran fine before.

Sounds like something got left somewhere it shouldn't be during the valve cover job. Check the compression and hope that a valve isn't bent.

The thing is it jumped timing on its own which I've read is very common with these cars so even if it bent a valve which it didn't really jump far enough to do damage, it should still run, even if it ran poorly, I can't get it started at all.

ok, here is the wording from the 'Tech Times' article on www.kiatechinfo.com: Tech Line tells us they get a fair amount of calls asking about valve/piston interference on our engines. The Sportage and Sephia/Spectra are the only "freewheeling engines." The valves do not interfere with the pistons if the timing belt fails. All other Kia engines are "interference engines.” The valves may interfere with the pistons if valve timing is off. The article is from early 2005 and the article number is KT20050302142. I wasn't saying that you left a wrench in the wrong place, even pulling the plugs to inspect them or drain the plugwells after the gasket replacement could cause a similar issue as you've described.
