Overheating

2007 PT cruiser. Started overheating with
bad engine knock. Drive less than a mile,
and it is in the red. Coolant is full. First time
it did this, the fan had quit. If I let it cool off
for a few minutes, it goes back to normal
but rises again as I drive away. I can smell
coolant, but don't seem to be losing any.
Car is undriveable. Help!!!!

try using Zerex coolant and change out the coolant bottle.. my old bottle was rotten from the inside leave parts which get block in the hoes line
