Why does my 07 chrysler sebring make a nasty sound?

The car makes a sputtering clicking sound
whenever it's on. It seems to run fine but it
just makes sounds that I'm pretty sure it
shouldn't make

I hear it while it's stopped and when it's running can't really hear over the sound of the wind or other noises. I have not yet opened the hood
